a feature where you get notified when you can no longer receive security updates until you buy a new computer
it's not like there's some CPU architecture change that means the computer can no longer run the new software
it's not like they're going to stop compiling the software to run on intel processors every time there's a new version
it's literally just Google not wanting to allow me to install security updates
thinking about how crazy this is
my newest Windows PC came with Windows 8 (not 8.1)
that puts it at at least 9 years old, 50% older than my netbook
the only reason I can't install Windows 11 on it (thank goodness) is that I don't have a TPM chip on my motherboard
so there's an actual hardware reason that I can't update
and yet Microsoft still gives me free Windows updates
Google Chrome still happily runs the latest version on my 9 year old Windows PC
and yet Google can't find a way to allow me to download security updates on my computer that runs only their code
