lengthy, activist media training advice

If you're an activist and you deal with journalists, you've probably run into issues at some point with your statements being misrepresented.

Ultimately, journalists and editors are human beings like everyone else, and so they will generally take whatever approach requires the least effort, for the best result.

What this means in practice, is that you should *always* proofread your answers to written interviews before giving them (same for your prefab press materials).

If you format them so well that they can be literally copy-pasted into the article, that is exactly what will happen, and the editor won't touch them! Misrepresentation almost always happens when the editor tries to rephrase your statements, so this is an easy and effective strategy to prevent that.

(Big companies know this too, which is why they always have press kits and canned statements ready. *Especially* for anticapitalist activism, it's important to understand their tactics and learn how to use them for social good.)
