a common antisemitic trope to be aware of

if you want to be an ally to jewish people and stay vigilant against antisemitism especially on fedi, the most common form of antisemitism i see on the fediverse that goes largely unnoticed unless its as blatant as i quote posted a bit ago is nazi inversions.

nazi inversion is basically the whole "oppressed becomes the oppressor" or how jews have become like the nazis or worse than them or something along the lines of that.

do not invoke the holocaust or nazism when talking about israel and palestine. it is a form of antisemitism.

@gavi

Thanks for the advice.

I would like to be sure I understand how it is antisemitic.
Is it because it essentialize jews both as a community (associating every jew with what Israël does) and as bearers of a common history (as if every jew has lived to he holocaust directly and/or still bear its traumatisms and therefore couldn't be a bad person)?

@Aliceenligne@framapiaf.org somewhat those things I think? but mostly in my own opinion it is a form of maliciously weaponizing Jewish trauma against us since it is still a community trauma that impacts us. As well it implies that the holocaust and nazism were a lesson we needed to learn from instead of heartless violence against us.

Makes a lot of sense, but

I think its still important to be able to criticize the pro-netanyahu bloc in general.

You probably dont want people reading your message to hear "because of the holocaust history, Jews including the Israeli government are immune from criticism of their actions"

But a lot of people who are very worked up about this stuff might hear that...

@forestjohnson@social.pixie.town @Aliceenligne@framapiaf.org if they hear that its kinda on them at this point. jews criticize israel all the time, and many jews currently are right now even on here.
