I need a vibes-based book recommendation for a gift.

I'm looking for sci-fi, but not something for the modern web-connected established sci-fi fan. No favorite tropes, no slow worldbuilding over many novels, no "romance in space" or "mystery in space" or "queer utopia in space..." I'm looking for something like that one mindbending standalone novel you pulled off the library shelf because you read the cover and it sounded so unlike anything you've even dreamed of experiencing. Something that left you newly aware of just how large and limitless the universe really is.

Something published this century, that I can buy in print. Got any ideas?
