how do developers deal with the pervasive feeling that the stuff they wrote is so fragile.. even when that's proven wrong by actual production use
There is truth in the this is fine dog. The size of fire depends on project to project; but most if not all have something smouldering away 
@f0x Lots and lots and lots of unit tests. Reproduced a bug? Write a test, ensure it does not come back. Then after a while, trust is built you can sleep well at night
