Just thinking about this; don't worry there's no chance that anything will ever change

If vanilla Masto ever implemented a thing that let me change the post length to allow gigantic blog posts, I don't think I would

While I like the idea of being able to blog and microblog in one place

As a mod, I don't want to have to read through multiple pages to figure out whether a post has some subtle homophobia in it

re: Just thinking about this; don't worry there's no chance that anything will ever change

@researchfairy wouldn't you still have to even if it's split over a longer thread? Or is the missing thing that there's no way to report a specific selection of a long post

re: Just thinking about this; don't worry there's no chance that anything will ever change

@f0x Partly that, but also that a big blog post could be homophobic in ways that aren't just "they used the f-slur in paragraph 25," but that only make sense when considered in the context of the rest of the post

And I'm just not willing to grade essays at an industrial scale haha

@researchfairy right, I definitely get that, but that would also (currently) be the case when they split that same essay over a bunch of toots in a thread?

re: Just thinking about this; don't worry there's no chance that anything will ever change

@f0x Yeah, in principle one could do that—write an entire multi-page paper and post it with sometimes mid-sentence breaks or whatever

But in practice, each individual post tends to contain ~ one idea, and long, long threads tend to be rare due to the friction of the UX

@researchfairy right, that makes sense
