I'm not 100% a fan of Mastodon's unsecured API endpoints: it leads to all sorts of assumptions being made by app developers, which don't hold for secure mode mastodon, or indeed any other implementation which uses the masto API but requires calls to be authed. It seems to lead to more headaches than it's worth..
