In #Dutch, the verb "lurken" means "to slurp" (e.g. drinking with a straw or smoking a waterpipe).

I never really realized that the English "to lurk" only has the sinister-ish "lurking in shadows"-type meaning.

This puts the internet slang "lurking" in a different light - I never saw it as something shady, just as people mostly-quietly absorbing the conversation in the background.

@f0x @raboof From my point of view it's a joke that makes it sound worse than it actually is. Otherwise it wouldn't make sense to say "lurk more" prescriptively.
