going to start limiting my notifications to just mentions / follows because i can feel myself slipping into bad habits

ha dopamine addicted brain, you may instinctively flick your thumb to the left to see how many interactions you received, but no longer. only useful notifications for you now

@kim i’m considering a config flag for GtS where you can turn off notifications for likes + boosts instance wide..

@tobi i like it as an idea, but also it feels very much like a frontend client task yaknow. like i love it as a feature and clearly i’m using it right now, but the “clear differentiations in responsibility” part of my brain doesn’t like the idea of it in the backend

@kim there are some sort-of reasons for having it in the backend:

it’s harder to turn notifications on again so you don’t slip as easily because you have to actually ssh into your instance and restart it

keep db smaller

BUT yes it is basically a frontend task :P
