why can't mastodon just linkify shit like any other platform

@f0x any link counts as a maximum of 23 characters on the platform, and is like that to ensure safer links

@eclectic sure, but if I type google.com it should turn that into a link too, instead of having to http(s) it yourself before it gets recognized

@f0x @eclectic i think the http:// requirement is to make it so typos don't accidentally get turned into links and because if the code had to automatically determine links it'd need to have a big table of every tld to check against if it forms a valid url
