say i wanted to get into music production, specifically wave remixing.
where do i start?
what software? (linux)
what guides/tutorials do i follow?

If you can stand proprietary software that targets linux, Bitwig is a really common community favorite Digital Audio Workstation. DAW's are software designed for competent audio editing, other options are REAPER and Ardour for example.
I recommend Bitwig as there is a larger community of people out there producing "how to make a house song in bitwig" guides, which can be incredibly helpful.
Your first steps, regardless of your software, is to start learning the basics of composition for your chosen genre. For example, I write house and techno music, so I did lots of learning about "drum patterns in house".
Remember that your first few attempts will not be what you want to end up at. You've got to learn how to work with the software, and develop the technique required to achieve what you are looking for. Remember that electronic music production and the art of remix is an art in and of itself, and that a DAW (or similar such tool) is just another instrument. One doesn't learn to play the guitar in a day, and one doesnt learn to remix a song in a week.
Focus on one thing at a time, like "how to make a kick drum" or "how to find good sounds (samples) from other peoples music to use in my own music" (this is a lot of what I do as a sample based house producer, spending hours diving through jazz records just to find a chord sound.)
Digital music production is its own world of technique to learn, have patience.
@f0x as a follow up, i found watching producers like Ricky Tinez and Marlow Diggs very helpful initially.
While they dont really go into much detail or specifically do guides, they really do a good job of showing their creative process from start to finish, as its happening.
I'd also recommend Polarity Music's youtube channel (https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6fkScAhWG63SUSr3D1MI6w) for Bitwig specifc tutorials, guides, and examples.
Moreover, remember that while one software may do what you are looking for better than another or in a different way, the general *theory* of what your doing is transferrable amongst all softwares.
