So the vaccine keeps most people from getting sick. But if you do end up getting sick while vaccinated, there are almost never severe symptoms, but you have the same viral load as someone who is unvaccinated. So the delta variant is more contagious, and vaccinated people are no less contagious when sick and they don't feel bad so they aren't as isolated.

So yeah, wear your masks even when vaccinated

@inmysocks hmm as I recall the vaccine does make you less contagious, and for a shorter period.
But yeah, less is not none so masking is still important for sure

@f0x the vaccines aren't supposed to make you any less contagious with the delta variant, that is one of the dangers of it. And since that is the most common variant now it doesn't seem like limiting it to just 'the delta variant' is relevant.

@f0x the vaccine does make it much much less likely that you will get covid, but if you get sick anyway you are similarly contagious as if you weren't vaccinated.

@inmysocks right that matches what I just heard from an expert friend, with the sidenote that vaccinated infected people do tend to recover faster, hence shortening the transmission window. Even if the viral load is indeed the same

@f0x I hadn't heard about the recovery thing, that makes me feel a bit better about it.
