I made this post to absolve me of any and all urge to drop into people's mentions and telling them to switch to linux or any other FLOSS alternatives to the stuff they're using. I'm not gonna do it.

@schratze Ugh, can you help me set up this Matrix thing? I’m usually on my iPhone when I communicate, but I use mint on my PC computer (which is more of a typewriter and post office atm)

@lilletale @schratze for mobile I recommend https://fluffychat.im (or Element app as second choice), for pc the most full-featured option is again Element, either in your browser or as Electron app. There's various native clients too but they're not so complete (Fractal, Nheko, and lots more), like they're missing usable e2ee

I just managed to sync all clients and decrypt chat histories. Element on desktop, element on phone, fluffychat on phone. it took some clicking and patience through verification requests, scanning qr code and/or comparing a series of emojis. but it works?
