@johnpierremaeli @ajroach42 tor can use exit nodes to proxy existing 'clearnet' websites, but also has 'hidden services', (web)servers that directly speak the tor protocol and as such stay anonymously within the network

If you're connecting to a public website, the connection from the exit node to the website happens in the clear.

If you're connecting to an onionsite, there is no exit node. The connection is entirely on the tor network.
