riot dot im is fine
it's no worse in usability than proprietary chats
y'all just like to ignore when proprietary chats give you random bullshit and forget that ever happened but as soon as something in an open source chat takes 2 clicks instead of one click whoops it's unusable LOL don't use it

@haskal I've really given Riot a long and hard try. I used it as my exclusive chat solution for ages. The conclusion that I came to is that the client is fine, but the flagship server is too slow to bear the load that it's given. The server end feels a lot slower to me than other FOSS solutions.

@MadestMadness there are a bunch of other servers. that's the point of federation. don't use matrix.org for mostly the same reasons you shouldn't use mastodon.social
like, any other server is perfectly fast and low-latency

@haskal I'm going to have to give it a shot on a different server for that reason. That honestly makes a lot of sense. 🙂 Do you have any recommendations in particular? 🙂

@MadestMadness
chat.weho.st
matrix.bau-ha.us
matrix.cybre.space (slightly misconfigured: when you make the account change the homeserver to matrix.cybre.space)
@haskal @MadestMadness hmm not as far as public registration goes. I would have offered an account on pixie.town but not until I've upgraded my homeserver's hardware to something more stable
