This is so much out of my league, but I must ask: why are no open H.264 encoder IPs out there?
The spec is 800+ pages, that's a hurdle for sure...

Since my gate-bending skills are at "I can drive a WS2812 with an iCE40 after trial&erroring a lot", I don't aspire to write my own.

Fraunhofer has an ultralow latency h264 IP (for €€€ presumably) which looks So Much Better than anything else on the market.

The motivation for this late night research was the imagined need for stereoscopic ultra low latency high fps video streaming for FPV drone and other fun purposes.

@uint8_t There is certainly a market for that. Current matter of affairs is single lens analog SD. Because of latency and power consumption.
If you‘re lucky it‘s PAL if not NTSC, sometimes even grayscale only.

I guess HD isn‘t really needed that much compared to the benefits of 3D vision during flight.

@MacLemon @uint8_t well DJI does have a digital HD fpv system, with acceptable latency.
stereoscopy isn't too important in fpv flight I think, but resolution can help (or just make the experience nicer)
