social media rant
I genuinely do not get why people just go with it and use the names "X" "Meta" etc
people are aware that they can just... not, right?
it's silly as shit, annoying to filter and in general just feels like "the rich tech guy wanted to find out how much ridiculous bullshit he could ask people to do and people are just going along with it"
I promise you there is not a single person who would genuinely be confused if you said "twitter" or "facebook" instead
istg they could probably rename to "EMITCSMGEAWSGHMM" ("Elon musk is the coolest smartest guy ever and we should give him more money") or something ridiculous and half the people would just go "welp nothing we can do. I guess we just gotta call it that now"
I can kinda get the meta one. it's still annoying because it uses a generic and common existing word that was already in use to refer to a specific corporation, and helps Facebook distance themselves from everything they've done under the previous name, but X? seriously? it's a fucking letter? do people not get why using that to refer to a specific corporation/website is not the best idea?
re: social media rant
@AgathaSorceress I've heard the argument that "X doesn't deserve twitter's prestige" or something along those lines but honestly as someone who saw the writing on the wall over six years ago I have my doubts about that prestige
re: social media rant
@elfi yeah that feels like a weird excuse, it feels like the implication is "twitter was good and new twitter isn't" when it was various degrees of the same thing over many years before it was renamed
