Watching some career streamers talking about how preroll ads kill new viewer influx and 3 minutes of ads an hour to turn them off is more than fair and anyone who doesn't think so has been ruined by "social media attention span"

And I'm just like... noooo? Yeah we used to put up with 15min/hour of ads in the TV days, but now we have options to not do that, and that is part of the calculus in deciding what media to consume.

Also that's not fair; Twitch is literally holding your growth hostage to make you run midroll ads and are explicitly targeting streamers who are trying to "grow" with their extortion. Be mad.

@trysdyn If anything, midrolls not timed for stream breaks are a surefire way to get me to tab out. I can mute a preroll and do something else while waiting for a stream to start--having it interrupted is the worst

@elfi I've brought this up to some of those streamers and the general belief is people who leave because of midrolls weren't "reliable" watchers, but people who never come in because of prerolls will never become reliable.

It's awful, just how much of The Game has to be played to do anything. These are typically cool people who just wanna do their thing on stream but have to monetize to some degree because [gestures at everything]

@trysdyn Yeah, essentially part of the reason why I've just decided I'm not going to stream anything actually
