From the current WIP documentation on AESIR's multiple colour palettes:

----

The eight system palettes, of 64 colours each, are designed around the needs of retrogaming programmers.

Palette 0 is a simulation of the EGA system palette, as one might find in the IBM PC; this includes the 16 CGA colours as well.

Palette 1 is a monochrome palette, with 64 shades from black to white.

Palette 2 provides simulations of the 16-colour palettes of four classic computers:

- Commodore 64
- ZX Spectrum
- Amstrad CPC
- Apple II

Palette 3 is a simulation of the Nintendo Entertainment System's 54-colour palette, with the remaining colours being shades of grey.

Palette 4 is a simulation of the 64-colour palette of the Sega Master System.

Palette 5 provides simulations of the 16-colour palettes of the following systems:

- Mattel Intellivision
- PICO-8 "Official" Colours
- PICO-8 "Extra" Colours
- Microsoft Windows 3.11 VGA

I'm open to suggestions as to what should be done with palettes 6 and 7. Perhaps a 32 greys palette with 32 additional colours?

@mos_8502 Just to be sure, there will be an option for a user palette amidst all this, right?

@elfi hardware limitations don’t permit that by default, but the CPLD can be reprogrammed, so it’s theoretically possible for a system update to alter the palettes.

@mos_8502 might be worth looking at more contemporary pixel art palettes in the 6-bit space for 6/7 then, for example
