me, realizing I'm about to sound like a huge dork no matter how I answer: I download FLAC files, transcode them to the venerable ogg opus codec with ffmpeg, and stream them either from my NAS or from cloud storage, why do you ask
this is genuinely what I find good and ergonomic to do, but it has the side effect of making me sound like a huge dork and "a weirdo who doesn't use Spotify"
my music collection started with a bunch of mp3s I got off the shared drive in elementary school and I still have them. I've been accumulating music for most of my life at this point, I'm not gonna reconstruct that in some walled garden at this point.
@BestGirlGrace word. most of this shit isn't even on spotify, and most of what it recommends me is the wrong kind of shit
