So ArenaNet says my Guild Wars account got compromised and they locked it without telling me so that's why I sat down for weekly game night and was locked out.

They insist my e-mail had to have been breached. I can demonstrably prove this is not true.

They won't tell me what they detected to lead them to this conclusion. Also all they require to unlock the account is for me to assert, via a channel they claim is compromised, that I changed my passwords.

This is.... awful security.
Got to the bottom of what happened with my ArenaNet account. Someone popped my GW2 account because GW2 was not what I was looking for and I never played it after my move to strong secure passwords so it was an old compromised PW.

Then they removed multiple secondary auth factors without telling anyone like out-of-band authorization of logins from new IP ranges.

And when my GW2 acocunt got popped and turned into a spam zombie, they nuked my GW1 account too.

U G H.
Well that's fixed. Apparently the identification factor they used to determine it was actually me was

1. My legal name as provided in the "File a ticket" form
2. The fact that I even knew I had a GW1 account at all because "lol no one files tickets about GW1 any more"

Real good. Ace security. 10/10 folks.

@elfi It's truly security theater in every sense of the term.

@trysdyn I hereby dub this shakespearean security theatre, in which every actor manages to do the exact wrong thing and plunge the story into chaos

@elfi Oh I like that!

I mean I hate that. But I like that.
