long angry rant about internet platforms

it'd be nice if we didn't need to keep 2 phone lines active to use the internet now

if we couldn't get a second number cheap, we just wouldn't even have a telegram or signal account open cause the info leaking would be completely unacceptable. we can't risk our system name being directly associated with the phone number we have to give out to literally anyone who asks for it

i don't think a move from telegram to signal is necessarily worse, but telegram and signal both share the same huge problems, and that's forcibly associating accounts with phone numbers and being centralized platforms

i don't wanna use signal for the some of the same reasons i don't wanna use cohost for the some of the same reasons i don't wanna use bluesky

i don't have any "good" alternatives, i'm just pretty over and done with this shit. we mostly just use matrix, email, and the fediverse at this point

i'm hoping we can at least salvage the fediverse with better software in the coming years, and i appreciate that our email domain is technically portable

we're just trying to scrape together whatever's viable right now instead of actively chasing the next disaster

i'm wanting to see protocols over platforms and third party clients that make actually using them better, because what's being done right now is solving nothing at a time where time is limited

@xenon I've had a lot of the same frustrations.
