@lyncia with tarot (in this one's experience) the symbolism and intent is already there. if that one plans on using a different kind of deck then probably setting one specific deck aside specifically for divination would likely be best. either way that one should either find or make a list of meanings so that the cards are given consistent meaning. this one's not a witch so definitely not the best and far from only source but still it hopes ot could help

@lyncia keep it around your person, even while running errands, to charge the deck with your energy. If you're doing tarot for someone else in person, they're supposed to touch the deck or shuffle it a bit (if you're comfortable with them doing that since people can bend or blunt the edges of the cards while shuffling) in order to charge it with their energy for a more personal read. (Edit: Have them cut the cards instead)

At least, that's what I was taught... I can't verify any of this.
