shouting, begging, pleading from the roofstops stop calling it content you are an artist, a writer, a voice actor, a video editor, etc. you are not a "content creator". such souless words by corporations infesting our beautiful lives

@lyncia one of our favourite video essays on YouTube features a sort of side narrative of it's creator wanting to be known as a documentarian making a documentary, but then having to correct himself into saying that he's a "content creator" working on a "video", and iirc by the end of it, he accepts and embraces that he is a documentarian making documentaries, not just a content creator making videos.

That video alone inspired us to say that we want to be a wildlife filmmaker producing wildlife documentaries, rather than a content creator making videos about wildlife. It's demeaning, it wittles them down to pushing out content rather than producing something meaningful and worth putting effort into

Here it is for anyone interested: https://youtu.be/b_rjBWmc1iQ?si=PtXV7Yi5TGKfL6Sn

ai slop; link contains food

@lyncia proposal: using the phrase "content creator" as a slur against ai slop content creators. this one guy who keeps trying (and miserably failing) to ai generate videos can very well be called "content creator" (derogatory)

@lyncia@social.pixie.town awww :neocat_bottom: imma try to do that for my stuff as well.... what do i even call it? videeos???

@duckydee not every catagory has a specific name i think. im just upset at how common it is for folks to call themselves "content creators"

@lyncia@social.pixie.town no im just gonna call the stuff i make on youtube "videeos" with an extra e because i usually never pass up the opportunidee to have a pun with my name in it

@lyncia@social.pixie.town lmao ur good, it makes sense given that my youtube channel is literally called "curiousidees" lmaooo

Calling ones work "content" reminds me of some very wise words said by someone that creates videos on video games.

"Remember that no matter what you do, be it writing, voice acting, video editing... what you do should never be considered content. It is art. Content is a word that was been twisted into meaning a means to grind up all your skills, aspirations and passion into a gray sludge that's meant for nothing more than to make a line go up. Your art in no way deserves that. Art is inalienably a reflection of its creator through the very act of making it [...] So get out there and fight for your art by fighting against the contentification of everything. You are worth it. Stay saucy everyone!"
