Kinda been long enough now to where I don’t feel uncomfortable saying that GitHub and Microsoft explicitly delayed (through a ton of procedural actions and “safety” concerns) rolling out support for pronouns for welllllllllllll over a year despite the many, many, many explanations and comments from LGBTQ staff requesting otherwise.

It was bullshit and a lot of us were unhappy about it. I don’t have receipts. But anyway, if they ever try to come crawling back in the good graces of gay people, just remember: they fucking suck in every goddamn way possible.

It was an opt-in field, nobody had to populate it, and they kept talking about far flung scenarios that would “be dangerous” for people that were literally impossible because it was an unpopulated by default opt in field and people who were writing their pronouns in knew what they were doing.

@aud This sounds vaguely familiar to me. Did any of this ever make it into any public threads?
