in case anyone's wondering why GtS never bothers with these kinds of daft events it's prettymuch because a) we can't be arsed, b) we're allergic to corpo-speak LinkedIn bollocks and don't want to be around it because it makes us too sad to write code, and c) it almost always seems to turn out that one or more of the organizers are shitheads like this 
@dumpsterqueer I wish more projects explicitly stated their opposition to these sorts of events, perhaps that would tear some strips off the (unwarranted) credibility that those events still have to journalists, other people not very familiar with the community, etc.

I'm afraid orgs/events like this will always be tempting to journalists, because they basically do half of joirnalists' job for them.
