...I just saw someone claim that "Linux isn't suitable for developers" because it doesn't have "functional sound" or... paste!?

I've heard the "no functional sound" one before, even ran into it pre-2018-ish

But this is the first time I'm hearing about "no paste" 💀

@hazelnot do they not know about ctrl shift c and ctrl shift v... And middle click... Hmm

@tobi I don't even know what they were talking about tbh

They said "the year of the Linux desktop was in 2008" which seemed to imply that was the one and only time they used Linux and think it literally hasn't changed at all since then based on the "no working sound" remark as well so they just kinda seemed clueless and pointlessly angry about a bad experience from 23 years ago

@hazelnot @tobi Either that or they're going off some Wayland 'criticisms' about missing APIs that haven't been true for many years now

@hazelnot @tobi Also, I'm more generally frustrated with such loud 'criticisms' of Wayland, about it 'not supporting' things. It is still being developed, of course it's missing stuff! Software doesn't just emerge fully formed from the aether, people have to build it first and that takes time!

That could have been communicated better by distros who adopted it, sure, but if you're going to issue loud technical criticisms at least make sure you have done the most cursory look into the subject matter!
