Apparently matrix.org runs Synapse Proprietary now.
@joepie91 the true hallmark of a flagship instance
@joepie91 amazing, I think that this really helps my server implementation decision.
@joepie91 Do we have a source for this?
From what I can see (https://matrix.org/_matrix/federation/v1/version) they run a version that identifies itself as 1.121.0rc1 (b=matrix-org-hotfixes,0fb2633a27) and that's available on https://github.com/element-hq/synapse/commits/matrix-org-hotfixes/ (one of the commits there is indeed 0fb2633a27).
@Peetz0r It was apparently mentioned in a recent Matrix Live, and came up in a TWIM room
@joepie91 Ah yes, I found the discussion in the TWIM room. Thanks for letting me know.
So Synapse Pro exists (which I didn't know about yet) and there are plans to use it on matrix.org, but it's not running there yet right now.
Yeah I'm not happy about that either. I'm mostly worried about Synapse Pro existing, with all the open core downsides.
Why can't they just do whatever those larger deployments need in the open?
@Peetz0r Because money, it seems. Kind of the predictable outcome of their high-spend approach to protocol development (which I'd already warned them about before but they were *sure* wasn't going to be a problem)
@joepie91 one of the many reasons I switched to conduwuit
