Although Apple is almost certainly being shitty about this (as they do), I've also seen various comments to the effect of "that was a very effective way to hide their own billing model changes", though haven't had time to look into those in detail.

I'm getting very strong impressions of "both parties are shitty" on this one. Kind of like the whole AWS vs. ElasticSearch thing.
