The problem with arguing against LLMs like ChatGPT purely on the basis that they "don't work", is that it might *seem* like an easier argument to convince people, but in practice you've just specified the threshold of workingness at which exploitation is acceptable

Like, yeah, it's true that the tech doesn't really work. But that's... really not the main problem with it? You're actually going to have to engage on the topic of exploitation to get the point across, there are no shortcuts here

@joepie91 also the argument of them not working is extremely subjective so it’s not a great argument. Once you step away from public chat bots it’s a lot harder to argue that LLMs don’t work because they actually do work (and work extremely well) which makes other arguments more valid.

@joepie91 The “doesn’t work” argument also invites the response that we should invest more so it does work.

I rather focus on something that people like to pretend to care about, like water usage (not high energy usage! then the response is just “solar power”)

Even human exploitation apparently isn’t a good argument. “that’s now, but in the future we use AI for that”
