If you have a job that pays well enough that you can afford to buy neat tech stuff to play with...

What percentage of your income are you setting aside, to support the needs of other people through things like mutual aid requests and grassroots food distribution groups?

(Replying not necessary; the point is to try and answer it for yourself.)

@joepie91 This was tough for me. I keep telling myself I'm going to work on a budget for this kind of stuff but I never do and it ends up causing me to either overdraft on my bank accounts or max out credit cards. I literally had to delete most of my accounts I used for sending people money because I was spending more than I was making.

I had to stop following the mutual aid tags because it was getting me into trouble a lot.

I will definitely revisit creating a real budget soon.

@KuJoe My goal with this toot was more to address the people who are on the other end (have never even considered doing this), in this case.

But I suppose that the same approach of "ask yourself what the percentage is" also works if it's actually too much!

@joepie91 honestly, your post is the first one I've seen that addresses budgeting your money to help people. I'm going to try to work on that this weekend.

These are the kinds of conversations people need to be having so thank you for bringing it up.

(I'm sure you're not the first to bring it up, but it's the first for me so I appreciate it.)
