Webmail was invented to show you ads. It was never not shit. We embraced it because in the era of desktop computers, it made it slightly easier to deal with synchronisation issues across multiple computers/devices. This problem now has better solutions which are easy to set up.
You can just stop using outlook and gmail in your personal life. Set up a forward and be free.

@celesteh For the longest time, I was unable to find a desktop e-mail client that worked as well for me as the GMail webmail client did, and that's what kept me using it.
And then GMail got an overhaul that made it slow and awkward and that problem solved itself, in a manner of speaking 🤷
(I'm still not happy with any of the e-mail clients I've seen...)
