I wonder if the sum total of news publishing energy and pollution before the Internet (trees, newsprint and its distribution and disposal or uses) is better or worse for the environment than the equivalent mainstream publications' internet presence and fractional distribution requirements (let's say 1/120th of a reader's computer and phone)

I bet it's a wash and hinges almost entirely on conflict minerals or forestry politics

@wilbr You would probably get very different outcomes depending on whether you include or exclude all the tracking and advertising machinery.
