I'm much less interested in how other cis people felt about the new #DoctorWho special's focus on #Trans inclusion than I am in how actual trans people felt about it.

And while I know no group is a monolith, I've heard overwhelmingly positive reactions from the trans community about how the special handled things.

Meanwhile, butthurt cis men on Reddit keep whining that it felt "cheesy, forced, and rushed."

So I want to invite any and all trans folks in my mutuals to share their thoughts.

opinions about Doctor Who special

@kreig In a sense, I would agree that it felt a bit rushed, while the battle scene felt like it dragged on a bit - I would've liked for them to cut some time from the latter and spend it on the former instead; I think a leading sentence or two would've helped a lot to make some comments fit into the flow of conversation better.

That having been said, if the goal was to unambiguously communicate where the show stands, then I think this was probably the right choice. I certainly don't shed a tear for the reviewbombing bigots.

And despite it feeling a bit rushed, that is not exactly a new phenomenon to the show either, and it definitely doesn't take away from the experience enough to warrant all the angry reviews! The representation itself was pretty accurate, I would say.

(Of course it's practically ancient tradition by this point that any time a Doctor Who episode says or does anything vaguely progressive or cheesy, scores of narrow-minded folks head to the internet to complain about how the show has "gone down the drain", so again, nothing new there)

Probably the only concrete improvement I could think of would be to give a bit more depth to Rose's gender identity; the 'non-binary' felt a bit perfunctory, without really going into what it means for her. Perhaps that will be in future episodes?
