Honestly salaries should just be legally required to automatically increase according to the inflation rate.

(If you think that's a bad idea because it would lead to hyperinflation, I would invite you to introspect for a moment on what that says about income inequality and where the inflation comes from)

@joepie91 As somebody who's been a salaried employee for about 8 years I have mixed feelings about this.

I do agree that most people's income should increase due to inflation, but I also feel that after a certain income level those increases should become smaller and smaller.

Examples:

If you're salary is less than $40k a year (which should be illegal) then yes an automatic increase should definitely be applied.

If you're salary is $750k a year, maybe pass that 7% down to the lower earners?

@KuJoe In practice, I'm not sure it matters - those who get large salaries are generally already those with a lot of sway in the company, and therefore the ability to just *demand* salary increases regardless of what the law says.

The people who really need this sort of automatic increase are those who are not in a position to negotiate their own salary increases ("I can find 10 others for you" plus the usual hierarchical power dynamics), so I suspect that they would be the only ones who actually see any benefit from even an income-independent legal mandate.

@KuJoe (And brackets usually come with their own loopholes and complexities, so they're probably best avoided if they're not likely to help the case!)

@joepie91 I agree, it would just be so much easier if people weren't so greedy to collect all of the crumbs they could, god I hate people sometimes. 😩
