It once again occurs to me that the people who talk the loudest about how FOSS communication systems are "not usable" and "just can't compete with Discord/Twitter/whatever" tend to be the most privileged folks with the best salaries who could most easily afford to spend some of their time to *fix* that problem... and then don't.
This is not universal, of course, and there *are* legitimate problems, and there *are* legitimate reasons for especially marginalized folks to be more wary of this. But those are not usually the loudest voices in that conversation.
(Incidentally, the people who shout the loudest that "it's perfectly fine, just get used to it", *also* tend to be highly privileged folks who are unwilling to put in the work to fix issues...)
Corollary: the things that the well-paid privileged tech folks like to complain about generally have zero overlap with the legitimate issues that marginalized folks actually run into
