Is there some way in Mastodon/glitch-soc to (optionally) view mentions and notifications from silenced instances?
@joepie91 I'm curious: Why would you ever want to do that?
@trishalynn I variously toot about personal things/frustrations and 'public interest' topics, and there's some instances that are silenced on pixie.town because they contain problematic folks that I wouldn't want to have to deal with on personal toots.
But when it's about 'public interest' topics, then it can be very valuable to engage in discussion with the good-faith folks on those silenced instances, but right now I can't find a way to do so!
With a silence being essentially a "suspension light", this seems like something that would make sense to have - allowing you to engage with silenced instances only if and when you are feeling up to it.
@joepie91 Ah, I see. AFAIK, I think that perhaps you may have to resort to having two Mastodon accounts on two different instances, one for the personal stuff and one for the "public interest" stuff on an instance where the rules are bit more lax in which servers gets defederated. I'm definitely not an expert in Masto server stuff, though, even though I started this account in 2017.
@trishalynn Nah, I deliberately don't have multiple accounts (I don't like segmenting my identity), and I'm actually quite happy with not having any interactions with the suspended servers at all (as they get suspended here for a good reason). But silenced servers are just an edgecase where some interactions are not desired but others are :)
