I've been wondering for some time now: Are those 3D printer materials as ridiculously expensive as toner/ink cartridges in paper printers?
Compared to the price of the printer?
With stupid programmed expiration dates, like in ink cartridges?

@StroomAfwaarts There have been a few printers that have tried DRM'ed filament, but they've been pretty universally criticized in the community. It probably helps a lot that the whole 3D printing space originates from open-source hobbyist projects.

The vast, *vast* majority of printers will just take any spool of plastic filament with consistent diameter, typically 15-20 EUR per KG.
