i wish fewer people used chrome. the google monopoly is so bad

i don't get how this happened. it's not even like, wildly good. it's far more a memory hog than i've ever seen firefox be. and after a hundred releases or something it still can't even handle having more than a few tabs open

i don't want google unilaterally deciding what the web should look like. as they're already doing with the jpeg xl thing, because pushing their own formats is convenient for their other products

edge is chrome. brave is chrome. vivaldi is chrome. opera is chrome. the window dressing doesn't matter; google still makes the engine and makes all the decisions

you don't need to defend your use of chrome to me! i cannot offer you absolution

@eevee I have a question though... What is Firefox doing wrong to make alternative browser developers want to pick Chrome over Firefox? They're both open source, why is it so rare that I ever see a gecko based browser that isn't Firefox?

@MoiraPrime @eevee From what I've been told, embedding Gecko is an absolute nightmare whereas embedding Chromium is comparatively trivial (this is particularly true when using stuff like Electron). Something something architectural technical debt.

@joepie91 @MoiraPrime @eevee GeckoView has been a thing in Android for years at this point though, so if they see there’s enough demand they could also create their own equivalent to the CEF

@xerz @MoiraPrime @eevee I mean, I'm sure they could, but as far as I can tell they.... didn't. And with Mozilla's current leadership, I am not holding out much hope.
