It's official: vegan 'fake' cheese is now cheaper in NL than real cheese

Likewise, I think 'fake' vegan minced meat may now be cheaper than the real thing (though it's still of extremely questionable quality)

@joepie91 congratulations to the cows on finally unionizing (I assume)

@joepie91 I think, and this is just me on my soapbox, that sure, it's of questionable quality when you benchmark it against the expectation that it resemble the real thing, but when you frame it in the light of being something different, that's when it has the ability to shine.

For example, the impossible whopper is awful because it tries to be the whopper, whereas white castles impossible slider doesn't try to be the same thin slab with five holes fried on a bed of onions, and because they don't just treat it the same, it's allowed to shine.

@joepie91 now, of course, that's just one thing, but I'll be honest, i get happy when I find a taco bell with a black bean sub menu or a bean burger, not because I expect them to imitate beef, but because mashed beans taste good in their own right.

@rallias In some cases, that's true; for example, the Beanit stuff I had in Finland was really good *because* it didn't try to copy minced meat directly. Unfortunately we don't seem to have any such things in NL, and it's all the same dry clone-y mostly-tasteless stuff.

@joepie91 eh, even so, it's been my experience there's a way to make it shine by treating it as it's own thing.

That said, I've got a slow cooker on order, so I'll be able to be lazy about making my beans soon.
