Today in people attempt to get to the hackerspace party: two trains are cancelled, someone gets lost in Oslo airport, and Schiphol is, well, Schiphol

@q The secret to surviving Schiphol is to fly to/from (especially from) Zaventem instead, I've found

@q Like, I cannot understate how much difference there is in terms of "they actually understand how to run an airport"

@joepie91 @q fucking this. God awfully designed airport, left me trapped behind a broken door with an escalator that was tipping more and more people into a tiny room that couldn’t cope

@Harry @q Also just the layout and operations in general, honestly. 5 paths to get everywhere and half of them are incompletely signed. Security takes fucking forever.

And I distinctly recall my flight where there was *nothing* open after security, and no vending machines, meaning I literally couldn't even buy a bottle of water.

Compare to Zaventem, where there is precisely 1 (one) path from the station/escalators/elevators to the security area, you pretty much *cannot* go wrong, security is fast, and immediately afterwards there's a huge unattended box of water bottles for 1 EUR, and a massive concourse with *lounge chairs*.

And on top of that, the flights from Zaventem are generally much cheaper too, and there's a direct train to it from NL...

@joepie91 @q I took a friend through Schiphol who struggles with mobility recently, we’d booked assistance through British Airways.. but the buggy was nowhere to be found when we landed

@Harry @q Oh, and also my ND ass very much appreciates the website for Zaventem, where you can enter your flight number and it'll give you a single page that contains *everything* you need to know as a linear list - departure time, when you need to arrive, what to expect, what you need to do, where you need to go when, etc.
