It's been 6 months now of me using my YouTube replacement full time, and it's still been great. The only thing that shows up are videos from people I've purposefully selected in the past, no algorithm, no "watch this video next", no integrations into the greater YouTube ecosystem. Additionally, it skips all intros, outros, promos, and sponsor segments. It often cuts the time to watch a video in half. And once you've watched what was queued up, that's it. There are no more.

I do support one-off adding of a YouTube video if somebody recommends something and I want to watch it, so that kind of thing isn't lost.

This also supports PeerTube channels, so YouTube content and PeerTube content show up in the same interface. I've been really enjoying that part.

I wish this kind of thing could scale and be shared with others, but I doubt that many people use tvOS like I do, and getting this on the Apple AppStore would be impossible. I could put the source up and say, "you can build and run it yourself", but you're not going to do that.

@gabek put the source up anyway!!

I was recently in a room with about 6 or 7 other people who had just received a free apple TV from an auction lot and were (AFAIK) planning on "using tvos like you do"

@forestjohnson As somebody who used to develop for Roku professionally, I really like the AppleTV. But the overlap between people who use an AppleTV and those I'm talking to on the Fediverse tends to be very small.
