Rewatched Arrival and it slaps. I love just the tiniest glimmer of optimism about our place in the universe in a movie. Plus it legitimately makes me think about how we communicate
Oh and also there's some sinophobia that gets subverted at the last minute, which is rather nice. In the tradition of Cold War era sci fi that showed the US and USSR getting along
It is incredibly hard to take Jeremy Renner seriously as a smart guy though. The movie's only weak spot.
Also want to rewatch Annihilation. I didn't like the ending at all the first time.
