actually mastodon is crumbling and it's because there's no federated instance blocks
ok honestly i keep trying to pin the widespread jackass side of fedi on some underlying technical problem that could fix this and prevent all the problems but maybe it's just that some people are jackasses on the internet and it's impossible to make a technical solution for that
but there should still be federated blocks and ocap and like, optional user-level opt-in federation
(like, basically what i mean is if you enable a setting on your account every time a new instance you haven't approved yet interacts with you, it goes in queue like your follow requests where you can choose to approve interactions from that instance to your account or block the instance for your account
would be a good start imo
then this could also be federated, you could "trust" your friends or alts so it syncs whatever instances they have approved or blocked and vice versa)
