photography snobs will hate me but i'm playing with diy paper lens inserts for shaped bokeh and I love it

they're badly cut but now that I know it works I'll have to perfect the pentagon

@haskal hmmmmm yeah! cutting is difficult tho cause it's so small, pentagon was already difficult to get good haha

@erikk @haskal i've been thinking about either that or a 3d print, current way it's mounted between the lens and CPL so needs to be quite thin, while still blocking all the light

@f0x as a photography snob, I just have to say that this is hella valid (and it looks nice what you’re doing with it)

@vy nice :) it's a pretty... touchy subject in the Photography World it seems though, even the wikipedia page(s) have a very subjective "this is bad bokeh" "this is good bokeh" where the good is just a completely smooth blur and that's pretty boring in my imo

@f0x Unfortunately, photography is full of people who do well enough to their own aesthetic taste and mutual approval, and misinterpret what has worked for them as a set of value-coded elements and rules. In reality, it's all about how you use it and what you do with it, and I would not trust the opinions of whatever fuckaboo decided to write on the wikipedia page :blobcat_mlem:

@f0x Screw those snobs...it's cool, you have fun with it, what more does it need.
Now thinking whether I can mod a lens to do this. 😅
