@f0x @ghost_bird

it has, but I found it quite confusing, dunno if other forks are different.

I look at emojos.in and see tons of nice emoji in other servers, say colorid.es and think, ok let's pick one, :ablobcatangel:, so I type :ablobcatangel: and colorid.es and… nothing happens?

then it turns out I would have to pester smbody from colorid.es to write me a toot with it, or find toots using it randomly by searching etc.?

@f0x @ghost_bird eventually I found out how to list emojis, you have to click the "local" tab – the confusing part being that the "all" and "remote" tabs will show you "local/enabled" but won't show whether it's "listed/unlisted". so you can enable or disable a local emoji from "all" but you can only list/unlist from "local".

@f0x @ghost_bird oh and something I found very confusing— if I'm searching for the hugging flan, and I know it’s :flan_hug:, and I put this in the search:

:flan_hug:

it doesn’t show anything even if it's in the federation cache. but if I do

flan_hug

then it works. I'd say this counts as a bug IMO

@elilla @ghost_bird i think one issue is that they only show up when you search without the : :
also more luck to search just for shortcode, ie ablobcatangel shows up from a lot of instances but not if I filter by colorid.es for some reason

@f0x @ghost_bird yes, but my instance is small and I wanted to pick emojis that weren't federated on it yet. that is, I wanted the emoji search to request new emoji from a remote instance.

@f0x @ghost_bird or, to be more clear:

when I saw the box for "shortcode" and "domain", I assumed it would fetch shortcode from domain.

it took ppl explaining the system to me to understand that it’s just a filter, not a request. that the whole thing is working on a set of previously fetched emojos that my instance happened to stumble upon at some point, and I have no direct way of adding stuff to this set.
