Am I the only one who just leaves those non-refuseable cookie popups covering like half the page while reading whatever it is I'm reading?

Sometimes I give up and delete their DIV via inspector but otherwise.. eh. I can still see parts of the website. :thonking:

@polychrome iirc most adblockers will add a context menu option to block the right-clicked element, which could be quicker than devtools

@f0x I'm mostly worried that some iffy site will decide my removing the DIV means I've accepted their policy.

@polychrome don't think that'd fly under GDPR, but I'm pretty sure those cookie walls are *already* illegal

@f0x they are illegal. Forcing you to accept a tracking cookie for advertising purposes in order to access a website when the tracking for advertising isn't part of why you're accessing the website is prohibited.

It's just that this approach is convenient and nobody sued the hell out of these websites yet.

I'm waiting for someone to make the first big lawsuit. :blobcatcoffee:

@f0x you might find this interesting: gdpr.eu/gdpr-consent-requireme

These websites also typically violate particulate consent (Look up "Consent must be specific" in the link above) and the ability to easily change your mind ("Consent can be revoked").

The GDPR is a eass of legal language as you'd expect but where the idea of 'consent' applies.. it actually makes sense.

Consenting to A doesn't consent to B and C. I can change my mind. I can say 'No'.
