as i explore more fiction in general, i am realizing that i am far more interested in examining how the work reflects the era it was made - art direction, cultural context, writing, etc - and very uninterested in asking myself "is this piece of work going to Change Me"
@platinumtulip Anything in particular that crossed the threshold to that realization? o: I can fall in love with aspects of different fiction but I try not to make it all-encompassing either, that just leads to mindless consumption
@elfi basically i've lived under a rock for my whole life, and there's a whole world of fiction out there that i've just never experienced. i felt really ashamed of that for a long time, and people pressuring me to watch/play/read stuff because it was important and formative to them just made me feel worse.
so, now i'm finally starting to explore fiction on my own terms :>
