A question for (mostly) the game developers. Are there any games/game engines out there that accurately simulate monochromatic light? Is yellow light actually yellow, and not treated as a mix of red and green?

For example, if you are rendering a yellow sodium lamp, and the light falls on a green object, is the reflected light that you see green or yellow? True monochromatic light can only ever be reflected back as the same colour, so with only yellow light present, everything must appear yellow. Mixed light behaves as an addition of the reflections of each individual colour, so if the light were a mix of red and green, then a green object would reflect the green but no red, so you would see green.

@ruawhitepaw I've seen some folks mess around with writing everything to use HSL models and then postprocess that back to sRGB with a shader, which could be used as a possible basis, but I've not seen a full colour spectrum modelled in a game engine before
