can anybody with solid knowledge ELI5 just how dangerous a solar flare of this magnitude is to my electronics? 
like, should I not have them on? should I unplug them? should I rush manufacturing of a custom Farraday cage for my computer?

@OctaviaConAmore If your power grid is prone to electrical problems, definitely unplug, but other than that you're fine. The big issue is mostly for large-scale infrastructure like internet backbones and power systems
